Resilient by Design

The four four-story barracks at Camp Shelby, Mississippi, were constructed entirely using prefabricated construction, featuring insulated load-bearing exterior walls and double tees. The design team overcame the challenge of integrating precast panels into a facility that meets progressive collapse requirements and UFC 4-023-03 standards. Built for longevity, the project is designed as a 100-year-plus facility.

The total precast system enhances durability, allowing the barracks to withstand extreme Gulf Coast weather and serve as hurricane shelters when needed. Thermally efficient sandwich wall panels exceeded ASHRAE 90.1 standards, streamlining both design and construction timelines while improving occupant comfort.
