Designed to Reflect the Scales of Justice

Located in a downtown district undergoing rapid revitalization, the Fred D. Thompson U.S. Courthouse and Federal Building stands as a bold civic institution that celebrates the role of the public in justice. The design blends classical and contemporary character, connecting the city’s past with its future.

A grand curved wall and central rotunda define the main façade, where transparent glazing reveals public circulation leading to six District Courts and two Magistrate Courts. Flanking towers house jury suites, bringing daylight into spaces that are traditionally enclosed and highlighting the public’s essential role in the judicial process.
