Hyperrealistic, Durable, and Modular Urban Training

The P1479 Outdoor Infantry Immersion Trainer at Camp Lejeune creates an immersive urban training space designed to prepare Marines for the complexity of modern conflict. Set across five acres and configured to replicate a North African village, the environment includes 51 interconnected spaces and 129 rooms arranged in a deliberately irregular, labyrinthine pattern. Varied room sizes, offset layouts and unconventional openings reinforce adaptability, critical thinking and tactical decision-making.

Wells partnered with the project team to deliver a relocatable, prefabricated building system that forms the backbone of the training environment. Designed for durability and flexibility, the system withstands rotorwash, rooftop insertions, vehicle loads and the repeated demands of intensive exercises. Integral footing strategies allow the components to bear on compacted stone, minimizing site work while enabling future disassembly and reconfiguration. Bolted connections and limited welding further support relocation without sacrificing performance.
