Honoring Tradition, Enhancing Function

This four-story, 93,000 sq ft courthouse expansion and renovation builds on the legacy of the original 1970s structure while preparing it for decades of continued service. To preserve the courthouse’s classic design and iconic bell tower, Wells delivered an architectural solution with embedded clay thin brick — delivering the timeless look of traditional masonry with the precision and efficiency of prefabrication.

Because brick was essential to maintaining the civic character of a Southern courthouse, Wells worked closely with the design team to ensure a seamless visual match between the embedded clay thin brick and the full-size brick used elsewhere on the building. Through a design-assist approach, the team developed a recladding solution that met structural requirements without increasing loads on the existing facade, preserving both form and function.

Completed in just 20 months, Wells saved an estimated two months on the critical path, enabling the team to achieve enclosure earlier while maintaining the design’s architectural integrity.
