Concrete Design with Lasting Impact

As part of the Better Jacksonville Plan, a new library opened in November 2005. This 300,000 sq ft monumental building is the first of its size to feature a rusticated architectural precast concrete finish designed to emulate classic coquina stone.

Wells worked closely with the design team to develop the exterior, which were crafted with multiple variations in finish to give each piece its own character. This approach adds depth and texture to the exterior, creating a visually dynamic building that often invites pedestrians to reach out and feel its surface.
