Timeless Judicial Design

The 7-story Nathan Deal Judicial Center in Atlanta is the first state building in Georgia devoted entirely to the judiciary and the first state-funded design-assist project. The 224,500 sq ft facility houses the Georgia Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, and the statewide Business Court, establishing a prominent civic landmark within the Capitol Hill District. Wells’ involvement in a design-assist capacity played a pivotal role, accelerating both design and overall delivery of the prefabricated system.

Early design-assist BIM workshops with Wells, Gilbane, Stevens & Wilkinson and Robert A.M. Stern Architects LLP were instrumental in aligning architectural vision with constructability. Designed in a classical architectural style, the building reflects the limestone facade of the neighboring Georgia State Capitol and is positioned directly on axis with the Capitol dome. The curved facade responds to both a prominent street intersection and the building’s adjacency to two interstate highways, reinforcing its civic presence while addressing complex site conditions.
