Expanding History
This pivotal phase in the museum's 240,000 sq ft expansion introduces the Solomon Victory Theater, The Stage Door Canteen, The American Sector Restaurant and Bar, executive offices, and a central plant. Designed to honor the legacy of World War II, the architecture evokes the rugged cliffs of Normandy, with an angular exterior forming a protective facade reminiscent of shields.
The project uses precast panels as roof decks, with some cantilevering over 10 feet, and vertical panel joints set at 83 degrees. The inherent resiliency of prefabricated concrete enhances the museum's ability to withstand storms, ensuring its preservation for generations. This expansion exemplifies the seamless integration of form and function, safeguarding history through innovative design.
