Timeless Integrity in Every Detail

The Thomas F. Eagleton U.S. Courthouse in St. Louis stands as the largest federal courthouse in the nation — an enduring symbol of justice and civic strength. Completed in 2000, the 29-story landmark follows a classical tripartite scheme built around an efficient split-level stacking concept. The design called for a facade that reflected both the building’s prominence and the performance expectations of a federal facility. Wells provided the versatility and lasting quality the team needed, offering a 100-year service life and delivering meaningful value to the client.

When the General Services Agency refined the project’s budget, the original plan for a conventional limestone facade evolved. Working closely with the design and construction teams, Wells provided a simulated limestone facade system that maintained the courthouse’s stately appearance while meeting cost and schedule goals. Through a coordinated, safety-driven effort, Wells leveraged multiple prefabrication facilities to manufacture more than 427,000 sq ft of architectural precast — over 3,800 individual pieces.
