Connecting Miami by Design

MiamiCentral Station is one of three stations anchoring Brightline’s express intercity passenger rail network, connecting south and central Florida through a bold piece of transit infrastructure that redefines how rail integrates into an urban core. Designed by SOM Architecture of New York and constructed by Suffolk Construction Co. of Miami, the station spans more than six city blocks and was conceived to move people efficiently without interrupting the city around it.

The MiamiCentral train station was designed as a bridge to accommodate a 1,000-foot train and not block cross streets. While the prefabricated system appears to structurally support the elevated platform, it instead serves as a highly articulated cladding system wrapped around an interior steel frame, delivering the visual weight and permanence the design demanded without compromising constructability.
