Iconic, Visible, and Welcoming

Located in the historic Congress Heights neighborhood on the grounds of the former Civil War–era St. Elizabeths Hospital, the G8Way DC Pavilion transforms a two-acre plot into a vibrant community destination. The open-air, 16,400 sq ft multipurpose structure connects St. Elizabeths’ east and west campuses and serves as a venue for local dining, farmers’ markets, and cultural events that celebrate the area’s heritage and future.

The design emphasizes the seamless integration of structure and landscape — creating what project leaders described as “an instantly iconic, visible, and welcoming view into the site.” Sustainability guided every design decision, resulting in a LEED Silver–certified structure that harmonizes performance and environmental responsibility. The pavilion’s rainwater harvesting system captures and stores runoff for irrigation, while drought-tolerant landscaping and a planted roof reduce heat gain and improve comfort. Natural ventilation minimizes energy use, ensuring year-round efficiency.
