Efficiency Meets Collegiate Gothic Design
Opus Hall is a seven-story, 400-bed, suite-style residence hall designed for upperclassmen at The Catholic University of America. Anchoring a new residential quadrangle, the building’s central tower serves as both an architectural focal point and a communal hub, seamlessly complementing the university’s 135-year-old campus.
Winter construction presented a significant challenge, but the design-build team relied on Wells’ building solutions to maintain schedule certainty and cost efficiency while achieving the university’s design vision. “Even in Washington, the winter climate can be difficult… Missing the deadline would have cost the university millions. By using our building solutions, we dodged that concern,” said Beth Buffington, Principal at LITTLE. More than 300 panels were delivered and installed in just over a month, pushing the project months ahead of schedule. “The last panel installed contained more than 200 bricks and was set in less than 15 minutes,” added Tim Shaver, Field Project Manager.
