Bold Form, Smart Function, Distinctive Identity

The Concrete Nest at 7001 Burnet Road is a mixed-use space in Austin, Texas that brings together work environments, recreational amenities, and sports facilities within a low-density urban setting organized around a central garden. The design draws from mid-century American industrial architecture, referencing the bold, utilitarian influence of Albert Kahn while reinterpreting it for a contemporary context.

The development is organized as three interconnected volumes, each expressing a distinct spatial character — a revitalized mid-century industrial factory, the Glass Pavilion housing dining and office environments and the Concrete Nest, a dedicated parking space with a strong architectural identity. Wells partnered with the design team to shape the parking space as an integral part of the overall experience rather than a purely utilitarian element.
