The 1,000,000 sq ft, 34-story Bank of America tower is the first and most critical piece of a 10-acre, two-block development in uptown Charlotte. Once home to the Charlotte Observer, the LEED Gold tower is now predominately inhabited by Bank of America, which occupies 23 of the 34 floors. In addition to office space, there is about 50,000 sq ft of retail space in the building and future plans call for residences and a hotel.

Wells artfully matched the desired textures, tones and colorations to give the structure the appearance of limestone, referencing the past with a contemporary flare. The Wells team leveraged technology in the design and manufacturing, giving the high-rise’s exterior the appearance of colored limestone. The decision to use polished concrete provided a level of detail that could only be accomplished – affordably – with precast concrete.
