Fluid Motion in Design
At 180,000 sq ft across six stories, Emory Healthcare’s Musculoskeletal Institute was designed to embody the restoration of movement through architecture. Located in Atlanta within Emory’s Executive Park Innovation District, the facility supports the diagnosis, treatment, and repair of bones, joints, and connective tissue while advancing Emory’s mission to integrate care, education, and research. Steven Rodgers, Senior Construction Administrator at HKS, explains the guiding principle was “to use building form to communicate the building’s purpose,” shaping a patient- and family-centered space organized to optimize care delivery, efficiency, and flow. Research and education spaces are elevated to the top floor, expressed through a distinctive projecting form that signals innovation and discovery.
